When we first started talking about the SunGods Founder Collection, I was conscious the word Founder could easily become another marketing label, something designed to make a product feel exclusive simply because there were fewer of them available, and while our first production run is deliberately limited to 400 bath sheets and 400 bed sets, I wanted the meaning behind those numbers to be considerably more interesting than manufactured scarcity.
For me, being a Founder isn't simply about being first to own something, it is about being part of the beginning of something, understanding what went into creating it, having a connection to the people and materials behind it and, importantly, participating in what happens next.
That distinction matters because we aren't trying to build another homewares company whose relationship with its customers begins at checkout and ends when the parcel arrives; we are trying to build a circular system in which products have a beginning, a useful life and eventually a way home, and the people who bring those products into their lives become part of that journey rather than simply the final destination.
Which is why the Founder Collection was never intended to be just another limited edition.
The First 800
Our Founder Run consists of 400 bath sheets, 100 for each of our four Gods, and 400 bed sets across Queen and King sizes, a deliberately considered first production run that gives us the opportunity to move from development samples and manufacturing specifications into real homes, where the products can finally begin doing what they were designed to do.
There is a practical reason for starting with these quantities, because we are building a new material and product system and want to understand how it performs before expanding production, but there is also something important about knowing that the first people who choose SunGods are helping establish the foundation on which future collections will be built.
They will experience the first versions of our waffle bath sheet, reversible percale and sateen bedding and fitted-sheet retention system, and their feedback will help us understand what works, what needs refining and which design decisions genuinely improve everyday life.
That is not a promise that every suggestion will become a product change, but it is a commitment to treating the first production run as the beginning of a relationship rather than the conclusion of a sale.
The Founder Collection isn't about creating something that nobody else can have, it is about recognising the people who were there when it began.
Why MMXXVI Matters
One of my favourite details in the Founder Collection is probably one of the simplest: MMXXVI, the Roman numerals for 2026, embroidered into the design as a permanent marker of the year in which these products became part of the SunGods story.
I didn't want a conventional limited-edition label that simply said First Edition, because that would have made the distinction about the product's place within a sales sequence rather than its place within a much longer journey.
The Roman numerals give us something different, they mark a moment in time.
The first bath sheets and bedding carry MMXXVI because 2026 is their beginning, and when we move into the next production year, those products will carry MMXXVII, allowing the collections to develop their own chronology without changing the underlying philosophy.
Over time, I love the idea that somebody might own a bath sheet from MMXXVI, bedding from MMXXVII and another SunGods product from a future year, with each piece carrying a quiet record of when it entered the world and became part of somebody's home.
It isn't about suggesting that an earlier year makes a product inherently more valuable, it is about recognising our products have histories and that their histories shouldn't disappear simply because ownership changes.
A Product With Your Name On Its Story
The next part of the Founder experience is personalisation, rather than treating this as another opportunity to add decoration to the product, we wanted to connect it to the product's identity and the journey it is beginning.
As a Founder, you will be able to choose the name associated with your product's digital record, creating a personal connection between the first owner and the materials that have come together to make it.
That name will become part of a digital Founder certificate, designed to record the product's identity, its God, its production year and the material information behind it, giving you something more meaningful than a conventional certificate of purchase.
The intention is to create a record that belongs to the product, not simply the transaction, because the transaction is only one moment in what we hope will become a much longer story.
Your bath sheet might begin its life in your bathroom, move with you to another home, become something you take to the beach every weekend or eventually be passed to somebody else, and while those experiences may seem ordinary, they are precisely what gives a product its life beyond the manufacturing specification.
We want the digital record to provide a way of recognising that journey, with the information that can be verified distinguished from the personal stories people choose to contribute.
Following The Fibres Back To Their Beginning
There is another dimension to this that has been important to SunGods from the beginning, because before a bath sheet becomes a bath sheet or a duvet cover becomes bedding, the materials inside them have already travelled through an extraordinary number of places and processes.
Good Earth Cotton™ begins in Australian agricultural systems, SeaCell™ incorporates seaweed sourced from Icelandic waters and TENCEL™ Lyocell begins with wood-derived cellulose, before those fibres move through spinning, weaving, finishing and manufacturing to become the products we eventually bring into our homes.
We have partnered with FibreTrace as part of our approach to material verification, laboratory verification has already started for the first production run, understanding where materials originate is one thing, while establishing credible evidence to support provenance claims is another, it is important to distinguish the two.
Our initial verification approach is not the same as having a fully operational, continuously updated traceability platform for every component and every stage of the supply chain, and I don't want to suggest otherwise.
What we are building towards is a product record that brings together the material information, relevant verification evidence and the product's own identity, so the story behind what you own becomes more accessible and meaningful rather than disappearing once the packaging has been opened.
When we talk about transparency, I think we should be able to show people what we know, explain what has been verified and remain equally clear about what we are still working towards.
What If A Product's Story Didn't End With Its First Owner?
This is where the Founder concept becomes particularly interesting to me, because most product histories effectively end at the point of purchase, even though the physical materials themselves may continue being used for years, move between households or eventually become part of something entirely different.
We want to explore what happens if the product's digital identity continues with it.
Imagine your MMXXVI bath sheet spending years in your home before being passed to somebody else, or eventually entering the SunGods return system when it can no longer serve its original purpose, with its history helping us understand where it came from, how it was used and what happened next.
If those materials can be recovered and incorporated into a future product, our ambition is for the record to reflect that transition, allowing the next chapter to connect back to the one before it.
A fibre that began in cotton, seaweed or wood-derived cellulose might one day become part of another home essential, another collection or an entirely different product and perhaps move through several homes and experiences before reaching the end of its recoverable life.
That is the longer-term vision.
It is not something we can claim to have achieved today, because tracing materials through repeated recovery and reprocessing requires functioning collection systems, reliable material identification, recovery partners and records capable of maintaining those connections.
I believe this is a vision worth pursuing, it asks us to stop thinking of products as objects with a single owner and a single destination and start thinking about the materials inside them as resources whose value may continue beyond their first use.
Founder Means Participation
There is a reason The Circle sits at the heart of SunGods rather than existing simply as another loyalty program, because while our products are the physical expression of what we are trying to change, our ambition has always been much bigger than bath sheets and bedding. We want to build a community of people who are curious about conscious living, who question the things they bring into their homes, the habits they have developed and the systems they participate in, who believe through collective action we can make more considered choices that contribute to regenerating the planet rather than continually depleting its resources.
For me, this is the most important part of SunGods, because we can spend years researching materials, developing thoughtful products and designing circular return systems, but meaningful change requires people to participate. Our Founder Collection gives us somewhere to begin that relationship, connecting the first 800 products and their owners to the materials, design decisions and journeys behind them, while The Circle creates a community where people can share experiences, learn from one another, challenge conventional thinking and gradually incorporate conscious living into their everyday routines, recognising regeneration is not simply about what we buy, but how we live, what we consume, what we waste and how we care for the natural systems supporting us.
I genuinely believe, if we can build a community of people willing to participate in conscious living, the collective impact of small, everyday decisions has the potential to become far more meaningful than anything SunGods could achieve through its products alone. Not because buying a bath sheet regenerates the planet, but because keeping resources in circulation, changing consumption habits and supporting better systems can contribute to a healthier, more regenerative future, and that is what being a SunGods Founder means to me: not simply being among the first to own our products, but helping build a community where participation matters as much as ownership.
The products are where we begin. The Circle is how we move forward.
A Beginning Worth Remembering
When I think about what makes a Founder product different, I don't think first about limited quantities, exclusive access or the fact that the Roman numerals will change from MMXXVI to MMXXVII.
I think about what those details represent when they come together.
A product with a known beginning, a year that becomes part of its identity, a person who chooses to bring it into their life, a digital record that can connect them to its materials and, eventually, the possibility of following those materials into whatever comes next.
We are still building the systems required to make that longer journey possible, and I expect we will learn an enormous amount from the first people who participate, but that is precisely why I wanted to call this a Founder Collection rather than simply our first range.
A Founder doesn't need to have all the answers but is somebody willing to be part of the beginning.
Perhaps years from now, when a product carrying MMXXVI has moved through different homes, different experiences or even become part of something entirely new, its original owner will still be connected to the moment its journey began.
Not because they bought something rare but they helped begin something different.
Designed with a beginning, a life and a way home.
